Assurant Solutions- Preneed Division provides preneed insurance
products that help individuals arrange and fund their own funeral
plans.
Assurant Solution’s Preneed Division has been in business
for more than 60 years. United Family Life Insurance Company was
founded in 1940, in Atlanta, GA. In 1959, Assurant Solution’s
Preneed Division in Rapid City, S.D. began writing new insurance
business as Prairie States Life Insurance Company. In the early
1990s, the company made a strategic move to focus on preneed insurance.
In 1996, Prairie States Life changed its name to American Memorial
Life Insurance Company to emphasize its national customer base.
In 1998 American Memorial Life was acquired by Service Corporation
International, Inc. (SCI). Two years later SCI sold American Memorial
Life to Fortis, now known as Assurant.
Preneed Division is comprised of Union Security Insurance Company
in Atlanta and American Memorial Life Insurance Company in Rapid
City.
In 2005, Assurant implemented a strategic business restructure and
aligned the funeral pre-funding and preplanning business segment,
Assurant Preneed, under its Assurant Solutions business segment.
Assurant Solutions is a part of Assurant, a premier provider of
specialized insurance products and related services in North America
and selected other markets. Through its three key business units
Assurant Employee Benefits; Assurant Health; and Assurant Solutions
-- Assurant provides creditor-placed homeowners insurance; manufactured
housing homeowners insurance; debt protection administration; credit
insurance; warranties and extended services contracts; individual
health and small employer group health insurance; group dental insurance;
group disability insurance; group life insurance; and prefunded
funeral insurance. Assurant, which is traded on the New York Stock
Exchange under the symbol AIZ, has approximately $22 billion in
