Valentine’s Day Luncheon Mends Broken Hearts
Facing holidays can be a tough task for those who recently lost a
spouse. During the build-up to Valentine’s Day, that can be
an understatement.
John Greco and Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home staff in Weirton, W.Va.
invited widow and widowers from the families they served in the past
year to a luncheon for Valentine’s Day. In all, 88 invitations
were distributed to help chase away the Valentine’s Day blues.
“We know the holidays can be difficult for loved ones left
behind,” Greco said. “We wanted to give back to our
community.”
More than 30 guests attended the luncheon, held in the dining room
of a local country club and featured a wonderful selection of appetizers,
entrees and desserts.
Before lunch, guests listened to financial advice from Robert Capito,
a local financial and investment advisor from Horizon Financial.
Capito recommended the attendees compile a living will, durable
power of attorney and medical power of attorney.
After lunch was served, a moment of silence was observed in honor
of the loved ones. Greco-Hertnick staff members read the names of
those who died and presented a memorial laminated bookmark, with
their loved one’s obituary on it, to the spouse. Guests were
also presented with a Greco-Hertnick coffee mug filled with chocolate
kisses.
“We really want our families to know that our services go
above and beyond the funeral,” Greco said. “The trust
and faith families place in us is highly valued and we want them
to know they can call on us for support.”
